Overview

The Ni Una Menos is a feminist movement started in Argentina.  Since its conception, it has spread to many Latin American countries.  The movement is known for its campaign against gender based violence and femicide.  The first march took place June 3, 2015 where they protested violence against women.  This first march was at The Palace of Argentine National Congress.  The movement was sparked by the murder of a fourteen year old girl who was found beaten and a few weeks pregnant under the house of her boyfriend.  In the years since it was founded, it has expanded to include other feminist issues.  These issues include gender roles, sexual harrasment, gender pay gap, objecification, abortion, sex workers’ rights, and transgender rights.  Their stated mission is to end violence against women and to have a society with equal rights for women and men.  The organization does its work through marches, strikes, and social media campaigns.

Ele Não movement

This movement began in Brazil to protest the presidential campaign of Jair Bolsonaro.  Bolsonaro is infamous for his disparaging remarks about women, the LGBT+ community, and other ethnicities.  The movement held protests and had a hashtag online.  The movement began on Facebook, where women in the group "Mulheres contra Bolsonaro" (women against Bolsonaro) organized protests.

Comando Colibri

This organization started when a woman in Mexico City decided to start a self defense class for women in response to the daily violence women experience there.  The idea behind this organization is "to break with the victimization of women and to overcome women's daily fear of being verbally harassed and sexually accosted in public spaces."

Casa Del Encuentro

This organization was founded thirteen years ago to highlight femicides and to bring them to the public's attention.  This movement led to the Ni Una Menos movement.  In 2008, this movement relased the first national statistics over femicide.  The movement seeks to gets laws passed over femicide and educate the government and general public over the issue.
